Ruben Vargas has joined Sevilla from Augsburg on a contract until 2029.

Sevilla confirmed on Friday that Switzerland international forward Ruben Vargas has signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2029 after joining from Augsburg for a fee in the region of €2.5m, Ufabet reports.
Originally from Adligenswil, Switzerland he came through the academy at FC Luzern. He made his reserve team debut at 16 and then aged 19 made his first team team in the Swiss Super League debut against FC Zurich. Playing across the first and reserve teams, he made a total of 20 appearances during the 2017/18 season scoring once. The following season he played 38 games, scoring ten goals, contributing nine assists and making his European debut in the Europa League playoff round against Olympiacos.
Sevilla have been in talks with Augsburg for several weeks over the signing of Vargas, eventually agreeing a fee of around €2.5m for the player, who has six months remaining on his contract. The Switzerland international has signed a contract until the summer of 2029 and will wear the No. 5 shirt formerly worn by Lucas Ocampos. ‘Ruben Estefan Vargas Martinez has become Sevilla’s first signing of the winter window for the 2024-2025 season. He will wear the number 5 shirt,’ a club statement said.
Vargas will be another option in the forward line of Seville’s team under coach Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, as currently only Dodi Lukebakio is left to carry the burden alone after Cidera Ejuque’s injury, while Ocampos left the club in the summer and Jesus Banas just announced his retirement last month.
